Get to know the GFL Crocodiles Team: Defensive Back

Unsere zehn Jungs aus dem Defensive Backfield bestehen aus Safeties und Cornerbacks. Ihre Hauptaufgabe besteht darin, dass gegnerische Passpiel zu verteidigen.

Dejvion Steward (now #8, formerly #24)
What fascinates you about football? – „I was introduced to this sport at a young age and what fascinates me the most is the excitement of the sport. The strategy that goes into winning and the teamwork that’s required from each team.“

What do you like specially on your Position? How do you became a DB? Is this the Position you like the most? – „I feel my position is the last line of defense and is very important on defending the end zone. I became a DB as I developed through my years of playing. I started off as a DL but as my IQ grew and I got much faster I adapted the DB position.“

How do you prepare mentally for Gamedays? – „Before games I start with a good breakfast, do my meditation which calms me because my anxiety is always at its highest the day of games. Then I follow that by good music and prepare myself by visually seeing myself making plays.“

The Game you look most forward to in the 2021 Season? – „The game I look forward to most is playing in the German Bowl.“

How did you started playing Football? – „I started off playing basketball originally but after playing a lot of back yard football I grew more interest in the sport and eventually convinced my mom to let me try out for our local pop Warner team.“

Your favourite NFL Team? – „Dallas Cowboys“

Nicky Bakker (formerly #7)
What fascinates you on Football? – „What fascinates me the most about football is the brotherhood that is getting created amongst eachother through playing football. From the hard clashes on the field, to the funny moments on the busrides to away games. I find this form of teambonding very unique and not comparable to any other sports.“

How did you started playing Football? – „I started my football carreer playing flag football for a school team called the Caland Cougars. Soon after that, I joined the Amsterdam Crusaders and also had the chance to join the national team in my first year.“

Jan Mika Hesseln (#30)
Was macht die Faszination American Football für Dich aus? – „Die Athletik, spannende Spiele und die verschiedenen Positionen. Nur wenn jeder seinen Job macht, hast du als Team eine Chance.“

Was magst du besonders an deiner Position? Wie kamst du zu dieser? Ist es auch deine Lieblingsposition? – „Die Position ist sehr abwechslungsreich. Du musst Spieler Covern, Tackles machen und wenn es gut läuft auch Bälle fangen. Besonders mag ich die Position, da man extrem schnell, sowohl im Kopf, als auch auf den Beinen sein muss. In der Jugend habe ich Receiver gespielt, da mir das jedoch zu einseitig wurde habe ich dann auf Cornerback gewechselt. Es ist auf jeden Fall meine Lieblingsposition.“

Wie bereitest du dich mental auf ein Spiel vor? – „Musik hören, Plays nochmal durchgehen und mir im Kopf den Sieg vorstellen.“

Wie kamst du zum American Football? – „Mein Bruder und Freunde haben mit dem Sport vor mir angefangen. Dadurch hab ich den Sport auch für mich entdeckt.“

Deine Lieblingsmanschaft in der NFL? – „Detroit Lions.“

Dein persönliches Ziel für die Saison 2021? – „Viel spielen und noch mindestens einen Pick Six machen der auch zählt.“

Mark Scherenberg (#43)
Was macht die Faszination American Football für Dich aus? – „Die Mischung aus Kontaktsport und Taktik macht Football für mich einzigartig. Kein anderer Sport versetzt mich in einen Rausch wie Football.“

Was magst du besonders an deiner Position? Wie kamst du zu dieser? Ist es auch deine Lieblingsposition? – „Als ich angefangen habe wollte ich unbedingt tacklen und hitten, deshalb kam für mich nur die Defense in Frage. Aber in jedem DB schlummert der heimlich Traum vom WR Dasein?“

Wie bereitest du dich mental auf ein Spiel vor? – „Ich schaue mir den Film des nächsten Gegners an und visualisieren mein Aufgaben und Match-ups.“

Dein persönliches Saisonspiel 2021? – „Playoffs! Und das Spiel gegen Braunschweig.“

Wie kamst du zum American Football? – „Ich habe Football Highlights gesehen und wollte sein wie Ed Reed.“

Deine Lieblingsmannschaft in der NFL? – „Die Seahawks, da wird 2021 Aaron Donkor durchstarten.“

Dein persönliches Ziel für die Saison 2021? – „Die Playoffs zu erreichen und mit den Jungs in der Defense zu wachsen.“

Michael Muntu (#28)
Wie kamst du zum Football? – „Großer Bruder und mein Cousin hatten es bereits gespielt auch sehr erfolgreich, dann nahm mich ein Freund mit zu den Bonn Gamecocks.“

Wie bereitest du dich auf ein Spiel vor? – „Sitzt das Playbook verschwindet die Nervosität und die Aufregung steigt. Die passende Musik macht den Rest!“

Lieblingsteam? – „LOS ANGELS RAMS.“

Emory Polley (#1)
What fascinates you about football? – „I think football is an exciting sport that requires total athleticism – (speed, agility, strength, endurance, finesse).“

Favorite team? – „Cleveland browns“

Which game do you look forward to for the 2021 season? – „I look forward to each and every single game. One week at a time, it is a privilege to be able to play a sport at a high level and i am grateful for every chance I get to compete.“

Nicolas Debey (now #24, formerly #8)
How did you start playing football? – „A friend told me about a new football team in our city and convinced me to give it a try. The only thing I ever saw about football was some big hits highlights and the Bengals WR Jerome Simpsons front flip TD. After my first practice, I knew that I had found my sport!“

Your favorite NFL Team? – „The Philadelphia Eagles ! Fly Eagles Fly.“

Your personal goals for the 2021 season? – „Keep improving my skills, my techniques, my game & learn from more experienced players.“

Thomas Jacob (#29)
What do the Crocodiles mean to you? What makes it special for you to play with the Cologne Crocodiles? – „It’s my first experience of playing football in a GFL team and I really enjoy it. The Crocodiles gave the opportunity to play the game I love at a very competitive level. The teammates and the coaches are helping me to develop my game and they’re super supportive so it helps me to gain confidence for the games so I’m very thankful for that.“

How do you get into American Football? – „I just stopped playing basketball so I wasn’t doing any sport anymore and then I saw videos of Odell Beckham Jr on Vines during his rookie season so I wanted to try it and I joined the Verviers-Pepinster Mustangs which was the nearest club from where I was living and I immediately felt in love with the game.“

Your favorite team in the NFL? – „My favorite NFL team is the New York Giants even if OBJ is not playing for us anymore.“

How do you mentally prepare for a game? – „To be mentally prepared for the games I try to empty my mind and I try to visualize the game and the plays that we prepared. I also like to listen to music to be motivate. My go to song right now is : 9 – Captaine Roshi.“

What is your personal Goal for this season? – „I don’t really have personal goals for the season I just want to elevate my game and play the best football I’m able to and also learn as much as possible. But for the collective goals I want us to go as far as we’re able to so the Championship ring is the goal.“
